Every animal we help has a story - of resilience, recovery, and second changes. Through spay/neuter programs, veterinary care support, and community education, Be Their Voice works to prevent suffering and give animals the care they deserve. Behind every statistic is a life saved, a family supported, and a community strengthened. These are just a few of the lives transformed through our work.
One Spay, Countless Lives Saved
This mother dog and her five puppies were discovered abandoned—terrified and struggling to survive. Left to fend for herself in an impossible situation, she had no one to turn to.
Thanks to Woodbourne Boarding Kennel and Marva Carter of Charlie’s Pet Transport, all five puppies were rehomed. The mother was spayed and found her forever family.
She’s safe now. But her story repeats itself across Barbados every day—unspayed dogs producing litter after litter, many ending up abandoned or in overcrowded shelters. One female can be responsible for thousands of descendants, and our island pays the price.
Spay/neuter stops the cycle before it starts.
Healing Carlton
Carlton showed up at a kind woman’s door one day – covered in painful fungal sores and dangerously thin. He didn’t want to leave, and she didn’t turn him away. Day after day, she fed him and gave him a safe place to rest. She gave him what she could, but Carlton needed more: veterinary care.
His severe skin condition required medicated baths, antifungal treatment, and professional monitoring – care beyond what any individual could provide alone.
That’s when everything changed. Be Their Voice stepped in to coordinate his care. Marva from Charlie’s Pet Transport offered to foster Carlton during his month-long recovery. WellVet Clinic provided the medical treatment he desperately needed. With this network of support, Carlton finally had everything required for true healing. Today, his skin is clearing, his energy is returning, and his gentle spirit is unmistakable. He survived because people cared, and because veterinary assistance was there when it was needed most.
Access to veterinary care shouldn’t be a luxury. For animals like Carlton, it’s a lifeline.
The Power of Speaking Up
Little Oreo lived on a chain. Day after day, he endured inadequate food, no shelter, and complete neglect. At just 13 pounds, Oreo was wasting away – his ribs visible, his future bleak.
One of our committee members saw him regularly. She couldn’t ignore it anymore. She approached the owner, again and again, pleading for him to surrender the dogs. Finally, he did.
That conversation changed Oreo’s life. With proper nutrition and care, he quickly gained weight and vitality. His transformation was remarkable – from a skeletal, listless puppy to a healthy, energetic dog ready for a real home.
Months later, Oreo flew to Canada with BTV member Laverne Beresford as his travel companion. Today, he’s living the life every dog deserves – safe, loved, and free from chains.
Advocacy means refusing to look away. It means asking, pleading, persisting – until animals like Oreo get their chance.
